I hope I’ve covered gear thoroughly in www.batnomad.com/travel-gear/, so this is just covering where I get my gear and how I try to keep up to date with what’s out there.

Every country will have an outdoor store so don’t expect me to cover every country.  I have four primary retailers I buy almost everything from, the fifth is a good all-round outdoor/sports store:

www.amazon.co.uk – global, the .co.uk is because I’m based in the UK a lot of the time

www.ellis-brigham.com – great store in the UK, very good variety and knowledgeable staff – I buy mostly in-store as I use them when I want to try on for size.  Their best store I think is in Covent Garden

www.cotswoldoutdoor.com – great store in the UK, very good variety and in most part knowledgeable staff – I buy mostly in-store. Their best store I think is in Kinston-upon-Thames or Piccadilly Circus in centre London

www.trappers.co.za – great South African store.  Knowledgeable staff, good range too, not as much as the above too but more than enough for most people although merino wool is quite difficult to find in South Africa.  I’ve only used three of their stores, the best one because of their staff is the one in Ballito, Kwazulu Natal

www.decathlon.co.uk – they have stores all over the globe, a brilliant shop for anything outdoor and sports orientated.  Don’t shy away from their own brands, they are good quality and compare with some of the best out there.  I’ve bought so much from them for cycling, mountain biking, hiking, camping, snowboarding the list goes on.
